I tried to get on ChatGPT but it's at capacity. Instead it wrote me a sonnet. How would I detect that this is a machine written poem? What is the 'something else' that is missing here? This is a subjective exercise from an untrained poet. I am the human-to-machine detector. What stands out about this poem that makes it not-quite-human? With the AI generated sonnet on the left, my comments on the right try to pick apart this form when already knowing it is fake.
Write a sonnet about the status of ChatGPT.Amidst the rush of curious minds, |
Ok a sonnet, so I’m expecting a particular form (no brainer for the
algorithm-14 lines, iambics rhyming). Influx is appropriate but sticks out as odd here. due? It kind of makes sense but again, not my choice of word here. ‘gentle hope’ – this is another flag that ‘gentle’ is more a filler word … to make the sonnet work, the last line too long and trying to fit in, This is true, I keep on refreshing the page to see if the bot is free to talk to me. The reuse of hopeful here is probably something I’d steer clear of. Starting the line with ‘so’, ‘and’, ‘the’….there are better ways to do this. ‘hold on tight’ – this is a good turn of phrase that works here but the last line is too long and struggles to rhyme. |
