Resilience

Adapted from the Oscar Wilde quote about the difference between the optimist and pessimist. In this quote I'm thinking about persistence as a solid thing, something nearly tangible. Persistence is part of resilience in the ability to keep at it, try again and keep the simple goals at the forefront of action.

In this article describing climate resilience (2019), it is "the ability to prepare for, recover from, and adapt to" the changes that are occurring no matter what the cause. Where I live there has been massive fires, burning out of control for days on end. The ground, the seeds, the vegetation must be resilient to survive these events.

People can learn the tools to assist in resilience. Maybe it's looking at the (w)hole until the possibilities seem possible. Even engaging your smile muscles until your brain thinks your are smiling....it helps with resilience.

Teams can be resilient. It requires different touches for different events. Maybe it is the informal chats in the digital spaces or the regular catch-up with a mentor or manager. Maybe it's a friend who is great at listening or a podcast that hits the write note.

Resilience is elastic and stable.
