A story of two quilts

Two projects have brought me joy this December. Comprising of global collaborations, artwork, sharing and expressing identity. One is a physical quilt and the other is a print-your-own calendar.

CLMOOC Calendar

A collaborative calendar has become a yearly tradition for educators and artists connected around clmooc.com. I love the image that Kevin has created as it appears as a quilt with each image connected and interfacing. The artwork and images provided are stories in themselves, each one a 'moment' in the artists lives. Here is a little more information about my contributions.
January - a moment of balance.  The crested desert pigeon appears comfortable on the antenna perch. A convenient safety seat with a good view of the neighbours' backyard. I love the old tin shed roof that wears its bravery in this intense desert sun with rust and warping.
October - a moment of contemplation. The alignment of these trees halted me in my afternoon walk. The rich colours of the bark palette blending with the recently rinsed red sand of the dry river bed. The majestic trees along this river often give me moments to pause, to observe and learn.

I continue to learn and share with these wonderful people: Simon Ensor, Karen Young, Sheri Edwards, Charlene Doland, Kevin Hodgson (designer and curator), Melvina Kurashige, Sarah Honeychurch, Ron Leunissen, Terry Elliott, Ron Samul, Jack Czajkowski, Irene Stewart, Greg Mcverry, Alan Levine, and Algot Runeman.

Art of Fiction Project

The  Art of Fiction with the University of Exeter, UK is subtitled 'women and creativity', this project is currently being stitched together and Ruth Broadway shares her progress on Instagram. Over 100 patches collected worldwide exploring stories of women's creativity and their connection to textiles. Ruth shares gentle pictures of sewing under lamp light alongside her hand armour that is required for the intense stitching periods. The exhibition Women's Work is running 11 Jan - 22 Feb, 2025.

    Every thread is a truth
How do we wear our promises
Like life, from the roots. (...full poem on website)
